Last night's Helicon West was killer. Sandy Anderson (pictured) and Nancy Tackas were the featured readers. I only met Nancy last night, but Sandy is the bees knees. She's currently with the Indoor Kids (Jerry's group), and she's been building the SLC poetry scene since at least the 60s. Last night, she gave me one of her chapbooks (score!) that was published before I was born. I like Sandy, in part, because she's the only other person (I imagine) that I could talk for extended periods with about rodents (which we did last night.) She's a fellow hamster/gerbil/rat lover.
The open mic was really great -- all kinds of styles and subjects (D&D tongue-in-cheek; Asian rap; another great short story by Chadd; beginner rhyming; artsy/dramatic stuff by "Wooly", etc.) Jerry came up to see Sandy read, and it was fun to have him here. He read at the open mic too, and did a fine jorb, as usual. Yay for words and stuff!

Hey--just wanted to say that I was here. And I don't know if you know--but Gandalf is a nickname that I inherited as I once dressed up as Gandalf for Halloween. (Dena)
